Hong Kong – Chairman, Electronic Data System (EDS)
From 1996 to 2001, Mr. Stephen Lau served as Hong Kong's first Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data. His responsibility was to promote and enforce compliance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, which was enacted to provide adequate protection for the use of an individual’s personal data in both the public and private sectors.
Mr. Lau has more than 30 years experience in the IT and banking industries in both the government and private sectors. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he held a variety of management positions with International Computer Limited and Citicorp, and served as the head of the Government Data Processing Agency for the Hong Kong Government.
