Description:
Digital health and data-driven health systems can help strengthen the delivery of quality and equity of health services, providing an important opportunity to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Uganda developed the National eHealth Policy and Strategy to guide the development of eHealth. The internet serves as a key facilitator for eHealth in Uganda’s health system. However, ensuring adequate internet and health data governance remain central to accelerate progress towards UHC. In 2023, with funding from Transform Health, Rural Aid Foundation undertook a contextual situation analysis of Uganda’s eHealth policy environment. This guided capacity building on health data rights for refugee women and girls on upholding their health data rights to access sexual reproductive health and rights services. This resulted into increased knowledge on their health data rights and an increase in uptake of sexual reproductive health services in Nyamarunda sub county
The objective was to explore the extent to which the internet and data governance principles were integrated in the eHealth policy and the digital strategic plan that was launched in May 2023 as key drivers to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).This oral presentation session will share findings, lesson, challenges and recommendations to ensure internet and health data governance principles are observed as drivers towards UHC
in the implementation of eHealth policies in developing countries.
